The Master Key is a large sculptural key inspired by early key designs. The work transforms a familiar object into a symbol of access, trust, and authority. Unlike an ordinary key, which opens a single door, the master key represents the ability to open many doors, giving its holder access beyond what is normally permitted. The work was made to question how access creates power and how trust is assigned to those who are given the ability to enter spaces that remain closed to others. The key itself becomes a symbol of responsibility, privilege, and control.
By enlarging the key, the work gives physical scale to the power it represents. Its size reflects the significance of holding access to many spaces at once, turning a simple tool into a monumental symbol of social authority.
The Master Key matters because access is a form of power. To hold the key is to be trusted with what others cannot reach, but it can also create fear. The work asks what happens when one person is given the ability to open every door.
