PANEL

The Panel is a sculptural arrangement of four chairs, with three identical chairs positioned together and a fourth placed separately, facing them. The work transforms an ordinary seating arrangement into a visual representation of social authority, hierarchy, and judgment. The work was made to question how social authority is established and how easily we accept the structures that define who has the power to speak, judge, or decide. The three chairs appear as a collective, while the isolated chair becomes the position of authority, simply because of where it has been placed. By using chairs as symbols of human presence, the work removes the people from the scene and leaves only the structure of social power behind. The arrangement becomes a stage in which the roles are determined before anyone enters the room. The Panel matters because social authority is often shaped by systems of positioning that feel natural or unquestionable. A chair can become a symbol of status and influence simply because we have learned to understand it that way. The work asks whether authority comes from the person, or from the position they have been given.
